Early Years Foundation Stage
We all want our children to have the best possible start in life. As parents and early years professionals we want them to learn and discover the world around them in safe and exciting new ways, allowing their individuality, creativity and personalities to be unveiled. At Footprints, your little ones will be welcomed into our nursery family where we want the absolute best for them too.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a guide for practitioners that helps us fulfil our passion in supporting and encouraging your child in their individual learning pathway.
Everything contained in the EYFS is based on four principles. They are that your children are unique, strong and independent, are able to learn in an environment that is enabling and that their learning and development is tailored to their individual needs. These four principles underpin the seven areas of learning that we at Footprints endeavour to make accessible to your children every day.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Encouraging the building of relationships, managing our feelings and behaviour and developing self-confidence and self-awareness.
Understanding the World
Learning about people and communities, developing an awareness of the world in which we live and understanding more about technology.
Physical Development
Discovering what our bodies can do, how we can move and express ourselves as well as how we can be healthy and happy.
Communication and Language
Learning to listen, adding depth to our understanding and an emerging confidence to speak out about things that interest us.
Mathematics
Making connections between shapes, learning about spaces and exploring number and measure.
Literacy
Exploring stories, pictures, poetry, rhyme and alliteration, as well as the discovery of pre writing skills.
Expressive Arts and Design
Becoming absorbed in and stretching our imagination as well as exploring and using a variety of media and materials in our play.
At Footprints we use LearningBook, an innovative digital learning journey. LearningBook is used to capture observations of activities and link them to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. This means we can track and monitor your child’s progress throughout their time at Footprints. Find out more about LearningBook, or login to your Parent Portal:
